Huge Jump in Impressions and Clicks...But Why?

I hope someone can explain what might have happened to one of my niche sites. Back in February one of my sites was averaging about 50-60 impressions daily, earning about $1/day. For a two day stretch the number of impressions went up to the 500-800 range and had approx 80 clicks each day. Then things went back to normal and have been the same ever since.

Has anyone else had this happen and what might be the cause of it? I didn't have analytics up at the time so I have no idea where the traffic came from. Is it possible I had a sudden, temporary jump to the front page for a high traffic keyword? I'm not complaining, just curious how/why that might happen.

    Thanks for your help!

So is it a glitch? I still have an analytics plugin installed so I'm not sure if that's what caused it. If it's not a glitch and google is ok with it, I'd like to have it happen again :D and again and again. They've already paid me for that period, so I'm assuming they're ok with how I got the traffic and clicks. It's very weird though.

I have also noticed a sudden jump in my earnings in June.. My earnings in first 6 days so far are equal to what I earn in 10 days normally.. If it continues at this rate I will earn twice as many of my routine earnings this month..

I think someone might have posted your links on a high traffic site.!

That's the only way to explain it other than a temporary #1 google ranking for my main keywords (which I'm nowhere near right now). But it only lasted two days, then went back down. If I had links on a high traffic site wouldn't they still bring in similar traffic?

This was before I'd used analytics, which sucks because if I had it running I'd know exactly what happened. Figures.

You still have the server logs. Maybe you can check those.

I took a look at the server logs, but either I didn't really know what to look for (very possible) or they don't really have what I'm looking for (keywords, traffic source, etc). I guess I'll have to let it go and hope something like this happens again. I installed Analytics shortly after this happened so I'll be ready for it next time.

    Thanks everyone, for your help.
