Hi DP friends, Does any of you have notice a huge fluctuation in Google rankings? I found few websites of mine and few customer websites, get huge drop in rankings during Christmas and New Year. Cheers Kal
I have noticed a pretty big shake-up in google rankings for my keywords over the past 2 weeks. On my biggest Keyword, Page #1 has been completely steady for literally the past 3 months without a single change. A few days ago there was a huge shake-up, with #1 dropping to 4, #7 and #8 taking the 1 and 2 spots. A complete newcomer took #3. I have personalization and history turned off and scroogle confirms this.
Please try and remember SERPS and traffic are not the same time. Christmas brings a drop in traffic but not necessarily rankings. How far back are you looking at your traffic trend, did it do the same last xmas??
Make sure you are not signed into your Google account and also check the main Google page to be sure that web history is turned off. These will effect the rankings presented to you in that they become 'customized' specifically for you. If you have done the above and see a drop in your site's position then this may mean that your site is not trusted as much as you would like. Around the holidays, G normally 'tightens' the rules to push out sites whose purpose is to rip off holiday shoppers. In doing so, all sites are subject to these tightened rules. So, the more trusted sites tend to move higher while the less trusted sites tend to move lower. If you think this is what is effecting your site, work on getting a link or two from a trusted and related source.
Huge drops for me too and i don't understand why, it was on good ranking for a long time but suddenly they dropped.
I have notice this for Google International results, the other local data centers seems to be OK - for exampe UK and AU.
I've seen some SERP improvements for my company site (now ranked #1 on google.com for web developers!) and small improvements on my personal sites. However some other personal sites have dropped from first page to somewhere in the 100's, which isn't so good!
