Huge Exoclick Scam!

Ok Exoclick hacked into my PayPal and sent a payment from my account to pay for advertising.

This is not just a few dollars. They decided to clean out $300.

I'm partly to blame as I think I must have used the same password for Exoclick and PayPal.

But these guys are going to get whats coming to them. Im already on the phone with PayPal.

Does anyone know where exoclick are located?

    Barcelona, Spain.
I'd be amazed if they had taken money without your permission.
The idea that they'd hack into your PayPal account is beyond belief - can you image how bad it would be for business?

I don't know why they would hack your account as they are a profitable business.

Paypal locks the account as soon as the GEOip location changes?

So if you are in US and exoclick in SPAIN "chances" are that IF hacked ... the account would get frozen as the location has changed .....!

    Just a possibility !

Where was the payment sent to? Maybe it was someone pretending to be from Exoclick but they weren't.
    Just my two cents.

PayPal has a feature that allows for merchant initiated payments without individual approval for each transaction. If you agreed to a special contract with ExoClick and PayPal, than perhaps it was simply a merchant initiated transaction.

ezyweb, but what do you are at ExoClick: a publisher or an advertiser?

I was an advertiser but with definitely no merchant agreement. I am looking at the IP logs now, and they have actually gone into my account and sent the payment through to the Exoclick PayPal account

AFAIK there are just 2 ways other then "send money".

subscription:the same amount is sent every x amount of time.
that is automatic with no approval needed.

request money:anybody can request any amount any time, but you have to approve it.

it doesn't make sense that they would commit grand larceny.

PayPal have confirmed that it wasn't a subscription or pre-approved payment.

And, Exoclick have just sent me a rude email basically telling me where to shove it (which was forwarded to PayPal). I have no idea why they are doing this - buts it not looking good for them

Any chance you can share that email with us? Screenshot and not cut and paste - don't want any confusion, do we?

Oh damn, here I thought I was the only one!

'Apparently', I made a payment of $200 to exoclick yesterday! And they haven't responded to any of my emails yet. No help from the ICQ support, either. I'm about to report it through the resolution center, although.. where do I check my login history at my Paypal account?

EDIT: Woops, nevermind about the login history.

I posted this story out on a couple of blogs I write for, and got a lot of emails. It looks like this is not an isolated incident - it has happened to other users - and exoclick so far haven't refunded the payments (I found it totaled $500 in the end).

    This is really serious!!
