Huge discrepancies bitween incoming and outgoing traffic, how can it be explained?

    My traffic stats for today show:

    33 GB incoming traffic and
    3.5 GB outgoing traffic.

    I run a webproxy script on a VPS. How can the huge discrepancy be explained?

    How are you generating the stats? Looks like they may be the other way around and aren't taking into account the incoming traffic of the proxy. This would be the case if you were just picking the bytes out of the web server's access log.

    Or are you generating these from the actual network traffic? (through IPTables or the network interface).
