Google shows there are 14000 results, but with the "show all" option, only 600 can be seen, why so big difference?
That's not what I want, I want to know what pages are cached by Google, and the results are weird. For example, use site:domain.com, Google shows: 100 pages were cached at 11.10. 14000 pages were cached at 11.17 If look into the result, only 600 pages can be seen, and these include the old 100 pages. Based on these, I really suspect Google really cached so many pages, if only show some samples, why all the old pages are there?
yeah i noticed this it always bugged me with me link: results - (when googles link results were more reliable than they are now!). i too would like to know why they do this - surely it doesn't take alot of processing power to give the right number of results pages that a search gives.
Keep in mind that different G datacenters can give drastically different results at essentially the same instant. Here's an example snapshot: Ten-Center Average: 71980 Datacenter..............Count........Down From Highest ======================================= 64.233.161.104......75,000........-500......(-0.7%) 64.233.167.104......72,700......-2800......(-3.7%) 66.102.7.104..........72,800......-2700......(-3.6%) 66.102.9.104..........74,200......-1300......(-1.7%) 216.239.37.104......75,000........-500......(-0.7%) 216.239.39.104......71,700......-3800......(-5.0%) 216.239.41.104......60,900....-14600....(-19.3%) 216.239.51.104......69,200......-6300......(-8.3%) 216.239.53.104......72,800......-2700......(-3.6%) 216.239.59.104......75,500.............0 That, of course, is not so great a discrepancy as you report, but it is indicative. As fluke said, "surely it doesn't take alot of processing power to give the right number of results pages that a search gives." Nor does there seem to be any reason, as there arguably might be with PR, to hide the details here from anyone.
