As a small business owner, I see not having my deductions I have now, this 'tax' would destroy me.

Also rebates, yet we are not taxed for what we make? How are they going to enforce how people report what they make correctly? In order to get these so called refunds/rebates?

--as far as the prebates go, read into it a bit more. Appears everyone would get the same, based on family size, not income. To me this sounds very socialist IMHO, I do not like this tax one bit. The more I look into it the more I dislike it.

I don't like the current system, the 'fair tax' however sure doesnt' leave a good taste in my mouth

This is why I questioned the 'reporting income' above, however with my reading I did on some searches it states it's by person 'family size' not by how much you make. Either method does not make any sense at all.

Before you get dismissive with me, you're actually wrong on the above. Everyone gets a prebate check, up to the poverty level allocated amounts. I have been reading up on the Fair Tax.

It won't help unless spending is curtailed. Since the Bush tax cuts, tax receipts are up, and yet our deficit has still ballooned. Sure Bush gets credit for reducing the deficit from where he took it, but it's still higher than when he came into office.

Spending cuts are inevitable in this country. Foreigners are already talking about dumping their dollars. It's pay a lot now, or pay everything later. There is no such thing as endless credit.

Government grows unless it is restrained. Government never shrinks itself without outside pressure or imposed limits. More money in the system, feeds the beast. The easiest way for me to get on board with this, because I can't truly say it is more or less flawed than the existing taxes, would be proof that it would reduce income to the government. I mean, theoretically if the Fair Tax will reduce taxes from citizens, then the government will receive less income.

Oh absolutely, it is opinion. But it's based on rational thinking and a knowledge of history. Again, dismissing me because YOU THINK I did not read the Fair Tax link you gave, doesn't mean I am wrong. Unless you would care to point out the section I missed on amnesty.

I can't figure out if you are (1) sexually frustrated, (2) illiterate, or (3) just a defensive moron.

I told you earlier, I wasn't trying to attack you. I am trying to have a debate. But you devalue it, when you attack me, instead of providing counter points.

I never claimed you needed to be an expert on the Fair Tax. But if you endorse it, I would expect you have some responses for criticisms. I'm not saying all of my criticisms are perfect, but they are thought out, and if you know they are wrong, why not inform me? Doesn't it behoove your desire for this Fair Tax, to educate me on why it is beneficial? And if so, even if you are not an expert, surely these sophomoric questions are within the realm of your previous research?

So before, you write that you will answer questions to the best of your ability, and then you tell me to F*** OFF and read up about the Fair Tax? I've been reading up on it all day. And I think the questions I posed are still legitimate.

I'm not looking for anymore responses. I can debate with sonichost, even though I don't think he understands the fundamentals of the argument, because he doesn't post to me in a condescending manner.

You're going back on my ignore list. And have a nice day.

guerilla, your comments in response to d16man do not represent what he said. It appears as if you are having a drama queen breakdown in order to portray yourself as being victimized by him. It's a pattern I've seen a lot. He is, in fact, have a cordial discussion and your accusations towards him that he isn't, are just not quantified.

Perhaps that is something you can take into account in future "discussions."

Here's some more information on the Fair Tax. This was important to me, as a home owner, because I count heavily on the mortgage interest deduction that I'm sure others do. Because this is a copyrighted article, I'm posting a small portion of it under "fair use" with a link to the entire article. It's very enlightening and answers a lot of questions.

This is actually part of the scenario used in comparison between the current system and the Fair Tax. As illustrated, though it is different, the average home owner actually saves more with the Fair Tax and has more cash on hand during the year, because there is no income tax to pay at the end of the year in order to realize a deduction in the first place.

    It's worth a read.

Here's a Fair Tax Calculator you can use, to see how it will affect you. I was quite surprised at how much I would save.

Seems like the fair tax is a gimmick. Steve Forbes proposed a flat tax but it really never went anywhere.

"Under Steve Forbes' plan the flat rate would be 17%. All families would get generous personal exemptions, so that a family of four would not pay taxes until its income exceeded $46,000. To encourage growth, the Forbes plan exempts income that is saved and invested. Which means that the Forbes plan is really a consumption tax. It taxes people based on what they take out of the system, not on what they put in."

Whatever taxes illegals will pay won't cover the servcies they receive.

Illegals are popular because they are subsidized by the taxpayer.

the fairtax helps eliminate that. It automatically makes them pay the same as every other american, which is a lot more than what they do now.
