If you did not earn anything from it, that means you're not getting good traffic. A good platform such as Hubpages and Squidoo would mean nothing if you just don't know how to bring traffics. Furthermore, you can't just create a hub / page / lens and leave it without any web promotion.

I don't mind HubPages. Draws traffic to my sites and its not a bad earner on the side. I prefer HubPages user interface than that of Squidoo. I guess AdSense sharing revenue sites are fine as long as you don't expect too much from them too quickly (like AdSense I guess).

It's the first time I see people use "scam" and "hubpages" together.

If you publish quality content about things that people are searching for, and it doesn't need to be hugely popular keywords, then it's like any other site that you might happen to own, search engines will index it, and you could rank highly.

You get 60% of the ad impressions. That means, of course, you're missing out on 40%. But what you get for that is a whole lot of tools to be able to quickly and easily publish an article, a domain name that search engines already trust, and less chance of your articles being down due to hackers. And you have a community of people to get tips and advice from, or encourage and inspire you.

    Personally I think it's a fair trade.

I just started using hubpages a few weeks ago and actually made some money so far. It is real, and you can make money off of it. If your trying to make money on the side then I would def recommend it, but for a living no. Here is my hub, it is around average

    http:// hubpages.com/hub/Weight-Lifting-Plan

This is what they look like and how they work

It would look a lot better if you have at least one image in there, and if the content warrants it, a video capsule.

Hubpages sucks because the site is allowing trolls to harass people using their real names and photos online. Even after repeated reportings of abuse, they are more likely to ban both you and your harassers than to consider the situation. The site is in serious decline, in my opinion. Anyone who is interested in a professional business enterprise or taking their writing seriously should be advised to stay away.

I truly agree with bloggerdollar. Its not a scam. Its a wonderful program to earn money if hardwork is done.. As mentioned above If ytou are writing original content and doing some bit of SEO, you can earn a lot. As far as my case is concerned, I haave around 9 hubs till date and I am earning a decent figure of 3-4$ from all my hubs. This is not a very huge amount but a great reward for all my hard work.
