I'm using plain http://domain.com form for all of my address. But, I've heard that http://www. is better. What is your opinion? and why is that?
since we are in a http ://wwwand http:// topic i am just wondering why my site with http ://wwwexample.com dont have a page rank while my site with the same domain name but withou the www http ://example.com has a pr 2 but they are exactly the same how come this happen? is it the hosting or what?
It is because www. is just a subdomain and I'm pretty sure subdomains have different PR. http://no-www.org/
Open a google webmasters account, add your website, change the way google looks at it So that both http:// + http://www are the same
www. has a different PR. As ssandecki said, redirect all traffic from www.domain.com to domain.com, (301 redirect I've heard is better for this perfect even). I've seen many high PR sites get even higher pagerank by using a 301 redirect to tell google it's domain.com instead of www.domain.com. However, 301 is how pr is faked, so I wonder if this is a legit way of doing this sometimes.
it's really personal choice as to what you go with, but i would suggest you 301 redirect one to the other (so that you don't get duplication content lower ranks (links pointing to the same page on 2 sites etc etc).
yup agree, just tell google that this url is the same. log in to your webmaster, after few hours google will correct that for you.
search engines consider a domain without www and with www, two seperate sites. I suggest you use htaccess redirect to always your domain become with www and you avoid duplicate content. If you need here is the code: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [L,R=301] ErrorDocument 404 http://www.domain.com/index.php Code (markup):
301 redirect will not get penalized by Google. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^your-domain.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.your-domain.com/$1 [R=permanent,L]
I prefer to use the www. Just make sure that if you can control your incoming links that they all use the same.
It does not matter which you use. It does matter that you use one or the other and stick with it. They have separate PRs because the one with the higher PR is most likely the one you use when building links. When getting back links, it is important to use one or the other don't intermix. For example, if you have 500 links pointing to www. domain .com and 500 pointing to domain .com you will split your PR juice. If you have 1000 pointing to domain.com and none to www. domain .com, you will have more PR for your site. Then do as other said and point the www to without and it will be fine. That is how I have my http://blozzz.com site set up and it works great and no problems with Google. Either way you type it in it goes to the without www and all my links are pointing to without www. I started it in December and it got a PR3 on the update and it was not a drop.
