I just started an SEO project for an existing site with rankings on Yahoo and MSN (and basically nothing on Google). Most (about 150) of the indexed pages are http://domain.com, while 10 pages are indexed with http://www.domain.com. It was always my understanding that www was better, so I set up a 301 redirect and told webmaster tools to make www preferred. I am a little weary if this is the right move. Should I just continue indexing new pages as http://domain.com? I don't want to lose the rankings I already have if the search engines get confused with what i'm doing. Thanks!
Google is largely the only thing you have to worry about and since you have a 301 in place you should be all set now. Nigel
Nigel is right If you set up a 301 there is no things to worry about. All your indexed content and rankings will be send to www mode
The best and easy way to do http://www / http:// is to use Goolgle webmaster tool. In the settings tab you can choose 'Preferred domain'
