    look at the site. http://labthink.cn/ is directed to a server in china
    and http://www.labthink.cn/ is directed to a server in u.s.

    how to do it? does it use a redirect url or other means?

    No, that is done just with the right DNS configuration. If you go to the domain's nameservers and edit its DNS zone you will see an entry for www . That is an A record (A records point a hostname to an IP address). So you can have an A record that points www(dot)domain to IP1 and another A record that points server(dot)domain to IP1 and so on. I know its a bit hard to understand without some DNS background. Just search google for "DNS tutorial" and read :D
