They are not there by default and they go in the root folder not the template folder.

    1. Create a blank text file called htaccess.txt
    2. upload it the wordpress root folder
    3. rename it .htaccess
    4. Set your permalinks in the wordpress admin panel.

I usually use a custom permalink structure of %postname% which gives you site.com/postname

    hope that helps,

I get infractions for posts like the one above. Stop trying to raise your post count.

I was just kidding in my last post of course ;) Point largely is that is goes in the wordpress root which does not inherently assume that wp is in the root. It could be in /blog which would not be the root folder.

your htacces file has to be in the same folder where u have wp-admin,wp-content & wp-includes folder reside. Upload or create one there.

don't hate a little rewording and support doesn't hurt. edit: : / i wuz fooled! man, watch me get an infraction.

    ---
Why are you looking for the htaccess file I'm curious. It usually doesn't exist until you change your permalink settings, then I notice a new one is created in the main wordpress directory.

Also, if you are using fireftp, go to options and then to "show hidden files" somewhere in there, and that will make it show if it wasn't before.

htaccess file is needed for setting permalink(its good for SEO coz URL will be friendly), i think you can create and fill htaccess file with content in setting permalink in your wordpress panel
