Hello, So basically this is an idea i've had mulling around in my mind which i've finally made a reality. When I came to launch my first HTML5 game I soon realized the market for HTML5 hadn't taken off yet. Especially trying to monetize my hard work (as every game developer would like to do). So I tried kongregate, which pays a small amount of the earnings your game makes. There's also newsgrounds which is most likely on par with kongregate (Though i'll admit i never bothered looking into it as they only supported flash at the time). So here's my big idea, an arcade that allows developers to earn 100% of the earnings their game receives. It works by allowing developers to add their games using their adf.ly ID to earn. Every player must see an adf.ly ad before playing the game. As annoying as a 5 second ad is from adf.ly it allows developers to earn from their hard work unlike any other web based games arcade I have seen. The site is functional though there is much more needed to be done so keep that in mind. Anyway I would like your views on the idea, functionality, design and name. http://html5er.co.uk Cheers
Idea sounds good. The SEO on site is terrible, as is the English. The name is all wrong for what it is IMHO Interesting idea though for those who don't mind clicking on shortened URL's which is of course still a no no to old school a holes like me who would never click such links.
The links arn't shortened, I use PHP to check the referrer, Also please (I'm natively from the UK) expand on what you mean by terrible English? Also the site has been officially launched for 3 days so yeah SEO is going to be poor. I really liked the name... well that's a kick in the teeth! As an example, Here's the link to my game stickman vietnam http://html5er.co.uk/game.php?id=9 you'll be presented with an ad. No short URL trickery here! None the less appreciate your opinion. Cheers
What are you talking about the SEO is poor as site was only launced 3 days ago, are you insane? SEO begins with the first word of every page b4 you produce the pages online. Now where do I begin with the terrible English? Perhaps the first line visually > In English would read > or it would need to be > The second line also has grammar that is incorrect to. The name is a nice name though, don't get me wrong, it's just not a nice name for your context IMHO. It's just one opininion though, but to me that name would suit a HTML5 web designers site and you might like to consider something a little more brandable and catchy for actual games. But as I say that's just one small opinion you might or might not like to consider. I am from the UK to btw and 46 so even though I don't take much notice of getting my spelling etc right on forums (like b4's for example) and what with my brain, hands and keyboard not working together in unison first time, every time due to my recent development of some sort of keyboard dyslexia, I can still actually spot bad grammar, where it really might matter, thankfully.
It's a good site and I think you're one of the first sites to start using the idea of HTML5 games solely. So well done on that. If I were you I'd work on the professionalism of your site now before it gets big. Work on the English you have on your site and work on getting some kind of helpful FAQ or something added to your site aswell.
PS putting this "HTML5er" in your thread title here will likely mean for the next 3 or 4 years you will find this thread related to a Google for "HTML5er" so I hope you realise that, well you do now.
Thanks for the comments! I personally have always made out on sites that I was a company when really I'm a lone soldier. So this time I felt like going down the road of well actually laying it out straight. Also the grammar you pointed out is honestly a fair point, I will admit grammar isn't my strong point but not that i'm using this as any kind of excuse as it really isn't though i actually do have dyslexia. Coding i'm fine, grammar and spelling I struggle with. I'm sorry I also thought you meant Offpage SEO, I'm a bit out of the loop as i've been building games for the past couple of years more so then sites. I had a break from it today but i'll be on it tomorrow and improve where i've gone wrong, Then I can go on to adding more functionality. Oh and this coming up for the search term HTML5er is not really an issue. There's chinese blogs among other things at the moment. Though html5er.co.uk is first! Again appreciate the input from both of you! Cheers
My Dad is dyslexic, but a fine engineer and top notch at Maths. If you need a hand anytime hit me up as coding is not my forte, like for exmple presently I need a WP plugin coded but can't get my head around it at all. You could actually use that DP result to help block out others results anyhow, so not so much of a problem but do you see what I meant about the name and how it would better suit a designers site as it's not really conjuring up games or being games related?
Oh no I totally agree what you mean. I would of been much better off with HTML5games or HTML5gamer but due to those already being taken I decided to go with html5er. One reason was it's short and catchy! The other being all the developers who upload their games are all HTML5er's though yes I fully agree! I've dabbled in wordpress plugins, if you want any help PM me! I appreciate all the advice though, I'm taking everything inboard! Cheers
I have PM'ed you something in regard to a name available which might be of interest/useful to you... So what games did you code on there?
