HTML or Javascript? New to CJ here.

Currently, I have signed up for a couple affiliate programs and have been accepted. One of those programs was for vBulletin.

    My question then is this:

Are we allowed to modify the HTML code they've given us? In other words, the way they code was first given to me, it messed up the formatting of my wordpress posts so I had to take out a few spaces etc. Is this fine?

Secondly, using the HTML code was the only way I could get the text for the link the way I wanted it... but is that ok? Is javascript better or something? Just want to make sure I'm doing it right.

    Thanks in advance.

The Javascript is better cuz it automatically update itself when the advertiser makes changes, and to answer your other question, you cannot change any code you get from cj...unless you dont want to get paid.

You can modify the text of text links, and most likely nobody will care. As long as you don't misrepresent the product, nobody will have an issue. I've been doing it for years.

Yes you can change it, but depending on the changes is a good idea to communicate with the affiliate.

no advantage using javascript - most of us don't like javascript.

    Here is the example:

I applied for the vBulletin program and got in. They have a link that says "Powered by vBulletin version ____" I personally don't prefer to add the vBulletin version on my forums so it goes like this:

    affiliate link
    Powered by vBulletin
    end affiliate link

All I did in the html section is get rid of the version stuff.

I don't know how that could prevent me from being paid lol, because the HTML code itself was not changed, just the spacing and some text that the link shows like.

Besides, if I left it the default text, it messes up the text formatting.

Now that I've explained it some more, what do you think?

I use HUGE databases I download from CJ and then pump into a page generation system i put together. I much prefer the HTML vs javascript...Content and links that way. Plus I can update the content.

I've only used the HTML; actually, I have only used straight up links and formatted it myself.
