Hi I have been designing a website, http://www.anxietymadewell.com/ I have been designing it using static html, from source. I am looking at creating a blog for my site and feeding it into the index.html page. I have decided that the best blogging software is WordPress. This looks brilliant for designing and creating pages in a timely way. Before I launch my blog I want to be sure that I'm doing the right think in relation to web design. Is it best to use Wordpress for my whole site? Or can I just create a WordPress Blog and feed it into my index.html page? I also know that WordPress pages generally look good as well. What do you think? If possible I would like to keep my html pages and just feed the blog in. What are the pros and cons for keeping a html design feeding in a WordPress blog, or going WordPress and integrating the html content into this? Thanks, James
While it depends heavily on the author, in general Wordpress code is atrocious, and you'll never be able to safely change anything ever again without the risk of pulling all your hair out and looking like someone with pellegra. Other than the table doing what a list could do, your site's not horribly coded-- so right now you have the advantage of keeping your better code and just adding the blog. If you are entranced by some of the (sometimes very very nice!) designs, then look at it very carefully and think through what you would want to change (this means, positioned of type of words, adding or removing spacing for something... the css is usually 4 different sheets for a bazillion different widgets and gizmos and other strange things, plus a "main" css sheet that's so long, trying to find what you want to change is a bazillion-times more difficult than it should be...) So, I'd recommend against it (except I design and code by hand and could take the look of a theme and simply copy it, and I dunno that you can or want to), unless you see something that's absolutely perfect and you'd never change anything. Take a look around this forum and you'll see several years worth of people asking, "I want to change this one thing in my Wordpress template and I can't figure it out... help!" Just so you know what you're getting into. : )
Hi that's lovely advice and very helpful. I was thinking along those lines, but I just wanted to check with somebody before rushing into anything and making a big mistake. Again, thanks for your help. That's really appreciated, James
