W3Schools are a bunch of sleazeball scammers who pretend to have something to do with the W3C (when they don't) and are filled with inaccuracies, web-rot, and in general is as responsible for bad coding practices as any of the other sleazy garbage out there. See http://w3fools.com/ for more on that. For the longest time I was unable to point anyone at a useful resource -- then along came Ian Lloyd's "HTML and CSS The right way" from sitepoint books... this was great, until third edition came along and went HTML 5 -- and like everything else HTML 5 is now crafted to set coding practices back to the WORST of 1997. If you can find first or second edition, I recommend that. for a while opera had a tutorial up that wasn't too bad, but they've given it to "webplatform.org" and it too has been turned into a giant steaming pile of HTML 5 asshattery. The W3C's educational material wasn't too bad either, until AGAIN well, do I have to say it? Worse they deleted almost all the text relating to structural rules -- no wonder nobody seems to be able to figure out how to use heading tags properly. Thanks HTML 5! I really pity anyone trying to learn right now -- it's just like learning in 1997 all over again, throwing out the past decade and a half of progress just so people can go "ooh shiny" and have a new term to throw around like a sick marketspeak buzzword.
I second that! I've been guilty as well recommending W3Schools to my classmates. Oh well... @deathshadow: I've been reading your series. Thanks a million!
