You can try the 'for dummies' series. It would be HTML For Dummies.

    Amazon Link:
    http://www.amazon.com/HTML-XHTML-Dummies-Computer-Tech/dp/047023847X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242866810&sr=8-1

This book includes HTML, CSS, and XHTML.

do not buy books for now..its really wasting of time to read books for beginners, because you may not interested by reading huge pages...try l-y-n-d-a.com for video tutorials..video is always best than a book.

Are these html and css books good enough for you? But you can always find plenty of free resources online that's comparable to these books. Try googling "html tutorial" or "css tutorial".
