.htaccess rewrite not working when page has number as first character

    Hi

    I have the following rule:

    RewriteRule ^.*-i([0-9]+)\.html$ product.php?product_id=$1 [L]


    ring-i40.html >>> product.php?product_id=40
    All works fine

    But when "9"ct is used I get a 500 error

    9ct-ring-i40.html

    I think it is because another number exists but only seems to happen when number is at the begining of the rewrite URL. Can you help with this please.
