Selling htaccess Management Script - $10 Start - No Reserve

Discussion in 'Sites' started by SilkySmooth, Aug 3, 2009.

  1. #1
htaccess-lite.com was launched in 2006 as a replacement for the popular htaccess Manager script which I sold via htaccessmanager.com for a couple of years.

The original htaccess Manager script was encoded with Zend and as a result this restricted the number of people who could purchase it. So I decided to build a lighter version of the script which was simply obfuscated instead and eventually discontinued the original script.

I haven`t carried out any promotion for this site since I launched it in place of the old script. I have basically just left the site to sit there and run since I put it online.

I often get queries about the script but I have been slow to respond to these. The most often asked query is are there any screenshots available, so I would strongly recommend that the new owner adds some screenshots of the script as soon as possible as it will almost certainly generate sales.

What is included in the sale:

htaccess-lite.com the entire web site as well as the script and instructions for delivery to the customers. The domain is registered until the 24th of January 2010.

htaccessmanager.com this is currently parked and used to be the home of the original script. This domain was first registered in 2004 and is registered until the 16th of June 2010.

htaccess-manager.com this is currently parked and used to redirect to the main site. Domain is registered until 16th of June 2010.

All three domains are registered with GoDaddy.

I will transfer the site to your hosting account for you. The site is coded in PHP and MySQL and it would be beneficial if the new owner had a little experience in PHP in order to obfuscate the script before delivery to customer. There is also no administration for this site, as I am a programmer I have always used phpMyAdmin to administrate the site.

The script comes with it's own licensing system which is why it must be obfuscated each time before delivery to the customer. The process could be automated but I never took the time to do it. Another reason why I would recommend the buyer have some experience with PHP.

    Revenue
    -------

Since I launched the site it has only made 12 sales (this is again, largely due to the lack of screenshots). The script sells for £5.99 which equates to roughly $10. I do also offer an installation service but this has never been purchased. In total the site has generated roughly $120.

    I'll bid $15.

I'm curious. What was the difference between the lite version (which you are including in this sale) and the non-lite version (that you discontinued)?

    Thanks for the bids guys.

The primary difference between the discontinued and the lite version was that the original was encoded using Zend. This meant that anyone wanting to use the script needed to have the Zend Optimizer compiled into the PHP installation on their server / hosting account.

This severely limited who could purchase the script. Whilst Zend Optimizer is pretty much standard on most PHP installs nowadays, in 2004/2005 this was not the case. Because of this limitation I was dealing with a lot of refunds because people were not reading the script requirements before purchasing. It was taking up way too much time to support so it made sense all round to switch to an obfuscated version rather than an encoded version.

Other than that the only other differences were a cleaner more compact code and a different layout for the lite version.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

This auction is now re-opened. The previous high bidder did not respond to my contact attempts, I am therefore discounting his bid.
