.htaccess Change Root Directory for URL

    I have a site (let's say www.example.com) and I want to change where it looks for the root files. Currently it looks in /public_html/ but I would like it to point to /public_html/folder1/

    I am trying to figure out how to do this with my .htaccess file, but to no avail. Can anybody help out? I'm sure it's something simple

    Do you have access to apache config file ?? is this a vps or dedicated server ?
