Dell is offering great promotions but a friend of mine told me they aren't very reliable?? he has one at work...
They crash often and are slower then other computers with same pcu's,...( don't know if this is true ) but it's what he told me.
I wouldn't buy a dell laptop because laptops are more difficult to repair ( and more expensive in parts) ... i would go for a hp or acer.

I have a fujitsu siemens (tower) and i'm very happy with it...
It's 5 years old and still working fine.
The only thing i hand to change is the harddisk ( it broke down a phew months after i bought it, bad luck :)

If you buy a laptop, I can only advise you to invest in it, don't buy the lower priced laptop... At work they bought 10 packard bell laptops ( +/- $800 each ) and they are slower then you can ever imagine :)

this is what i want to buy next : http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39029450,49261686,00.htm
of couse it isn't not much of a laptop anymore ... you need to be a power trained person to lift it up :) i've tried it ...
At the other hand, it's the perfect laptop for games, dvd, etc.

Brand doesn't matter. what is the configuration?

Do not look at outer parts or brand? Look inside what you are getting?

I have a pavillion notebook with a 17" screen. It is my second one. When this one goes, I will get another. When I get rich, I am going to switch to mac.

Well I have owned both myself, and I must say that I way prefer Dell.

I have a Dell PC that is like 8 years old and it still runs strong while the hp doing practically the same thing and in the same spot as the dell crashed and barley works now at around the 3 year mark.

That should tell you something :)

I have an older Dell laptop that has been very durable. It is older so I don't use it as much anymore, but if I were to buy another laptop I would possibly go with Dell again assuming it was the same price as the HP for the same specs. Regardless, i'd go with whichever one had the better specs otherwise.

none, I build my own, dell charge stupid prices for things, someone i know brought a graphics card from them which awas around £150 next day they put it down to £40.
HP arn't that bad price wise but their computers arn't that good.
then again dell's have loads of problems :D

My sister has a Dell, and it's been absolute crap since the day she bought it. It takes that computer 10 minutes to do even simple tasks like opening a new browser. I swear the thing came crippled with built in adware. I think she got a pop-up attack the moment she turned it on.

My friends had an Alienware laptop, the top-of-the-line all options model, he had to send in a complaint to the BBB after they (first Alienware, and then Dell after the buyout) wouldn't declare his laptop a lemon after he had to send it in for repairs 5 times (all manufacturer's defects). As I said, Alienware is now owned by Dell, so that's basically what you're getting, and frankly I wasn't impressed with AW when they weren't owned by Dell.

I have no experience with HP, but my Toshiba laptop has worked like a dream, and I abuse the hell out of it. I think I left it on for about 4 months straight, never even a hiccup.
