I highly doubt you can host a forum with 200 people online at same time on shared hosting. especially on a host that oversells
I have no complaints about Dreamhost. I'm not using it for anything mission critical though, mainly because of the lack of server software options (which I suspect is what you'll get with pretty much any shared hosting solution) and pretty dodgy support. You get what you pay for.
Dreamhost is awesome. I don't know what their business model is, but you can't beat the value for the money.
Dreamhost has gotten to be terrible. I was a loyal customer, but left them last month after hosting a TON of sites with them for the last 3 years. I have since switched to hostgator and been very happy, particularly with support, which is non-existant at dreamhost. Bye Bye Dreamhost
yea, I'm lovin' the unlimited domains. If my traffic gets so high that Dreamhost won't cut it anymore, well, I should be so lucky.
I run a forum on Dreamhost that has over 200 people online without a problem... dreamhost HAS had more issues in past year then i have had before i would say biggest issue is email... seems to act screwy every once in a while (once every 3 months) but in general i am happy with dreamhost for now. Soon I may be upgrading elsewhere as my sites are getting bigger and more critical..... but ingeneral i ahve used them past 2 years an i am pleased compared to horror stories i have heard of form other hosts.
That makes me feel better... One thing for sure i checked the site they host on one server its just 16 as compared to godaddy's 4000 sites... SO now do you think dreamhost oversells?
My only problem with Dreamhost is that sometimes it is just incredibly slow for simple stuff, but only at random times. I'll post a weblog entry and everything will go fine, then I'll try to edit it a minute late (you know how that goes), and it will hang for thirty seconds. Argh! In fact, it is so unreliable that this week I finally moved up to a VPS at Rimuhosting. It should be much much more responsive and reliable.
Well... which datacentre does Dreamhost use? If servers are from ThePlanet... then that may explain it...
I just signed up to their basic account for only $22 for a year. You can't beat that price. Basically I can use it for quickie sites with low traffic. It helps when you have a few hundred sites to spread them around a bit if you are linking them. If they are on the same IP or Host Google will notice this. Redundancy never hurts either. For cheap hosting also check out servage.net I had an account there for 3 months and it was pretty good. I had no problems. Also I paid last night and within 5 minutes my account was setup and active.
is that price for a dreamhost?i can only find smth with 9$/month price + setup fee, can you drop a link to the page with your price?
Don't forget to enter '777' in the special promotions box, I think it's still active, if not do a yahoo (everyone does a 'google' I thought I'd have a change for Dreamhost Coupons, there's tonnes of them outthere.
I used "wesave" code and save $50 on yearly plan. Its crazy that they are offering so much space and bandwith at such a cheap price...
