I see all these post saying they started with a couple cents a day and work their way up after a week to $5 a day and so forth. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I don't get ANY clicks on my ads. EVER. Haven't had one. Is it because the site my ads are on aren't marketing anything? It's strictly entertainment? Do I need to market something in order for me to make money? willietc.blogspot.com is the site if looking at it helps you with any suggestions. Or are these types of sites just too hard to make money off of?

It's all about the niche, your visitors and marketing. You've got to get back links and get a steady flow of visitors to your site. And even then, there's no guarantee that anyone will click the ads still.

And marketing, yes, you need to do, but marketing a product? No. I wouldn't recommend trying to sell a product on your website, then plastering ad-sense ads all over your page. I've never seen anyone sell anything that had ads plastered all over the product descriptions & checkouts.

Good ad placement and LOTS OF TRAFFIC are key to clicks.

Also keep in mind that -

    - some people who post here are exaggerating

    - some people start out by placing ads on sites that are already getting traffic and/or have dozens or hundreds of posts

    - some people who post here are using "tricks" that will eventually get their accounts disabled, or have placed ads on sites with movie download links or sexy photos or other content that gets lots of traffic, but is against the Adsense program policies.

That doesn't mean it isn't possible to steadily increase your income, but it means that it isn't as "easy" as some posts make it sound.

When you have a brand new blog you have to really bust your butt to get back links and traffic, all while continuing to post new stuff regularly.

Good points. There is a lot of BS and things that are against Google's TOS. Traffic is key, and it's hard work getting it!

But...if they are fantastic sites/products, why isn't the traffic coming naturally?

Is niche meaning something I'm good at? And any suggestions on back linking? Like, are there sites out there or do I just go post forums, blog post, etc? And what do you mean by marketing if it's not a product? Thanks for the help!
