$xxxx on a great design. Not sure about the rest, I've never spent a lot on marketing.

70% for TV ads during prime time
    20% for word of mouth
    10% for PPC marketing

Design, Content, PPC and SEO. Not sure of exact percentages, but primarily design and content and fleshing out the extremely unique and internet shattering idea id want to have in order to warrant $500,000.

Just because you have the money to doesn't mean you should go and advertise on TV and especially Radio. Neither is shown to convert that well. It all depends on your niche on where you should advertise but I would only dedicate 5-10% on PPC because really it will all come down to SEO and word of mouth (using social media, blog reviews, etc).

If you had $500k, you really should get some good SEO, maybe some PPC too as well as a great design. You should also spend some of it on yourself too, you can't spend everything on marketing right?

Thanks for the replies so far guys...

Actually, my question is a hypothetical one (sadly), but I think it's a worthwhile one too - especially if you're writing a marketing plan that you want to pitch to investors.

I'm hearing a few suggestions for a professional SEO consulting firm, which is a really good idea - but how do you know which ones are decent? The ones that rank highest in Google for 'SEO'?

Any ideas on how you would use part of this money to get a viral marketing campaign going?

And what about social media? Can you/would you 'buy' Digg, Facebook etc. users to plug your product?
