    Any thoughts?

    Personally I'm thinking:

    50% PPC
    20% Content creation
    20% Paid Links / Reviews
    5% Banner Advertising
    5% Email Advertising

Well, I would get a better host for my server

then I would do some Paid Links/ Reviews, Pay people for content and posting, and maby a few PPC.

Most of it would go to paying for content though

Hi mate, My part your question is totally theoretical. I should reach the stage of my budget being like this altogether first. I will cross the bridge if I arrive to it.;)

It all depends on what type of website you have. With a budget of that size I would.

    1. Hire a designer
    2. Hire a top SEO company
    3. Hire a web consultant

I would spend maybe 1/10 of that on marketing, and save the rest for later.

You can post a link on my site for $100,000 :)

That would be a *great* way to spend the budget.

..oh... and another great idea would be to use some to hire a celebrity blogger (related to the topic) to provide content and increase the popularity of the site.

Really if you have 500k you should hire out people to work a long side you who have a good background in making websites successful. The 500k should be budgeted for at least a year and a half but really it depends on what you are trying to do because if the site takes off fast you may need to go for more VC money.

something tells me that this sort of "what if" question rather a real one. Do you really have such budget or it's just a "survey" question?

I'm curious as to the email marketing.
Do you buy an opt-in list somewhere?
Otherwise, it is free to simply add an eNews sign up box on the site, and you spam the crap out of them until they quit.
    :p

If I had 500k to invest in marketing...I wouldn't. I would buy a site that is generating 40k-50k a month and then
reap the rewards 10 months later ;).

If I had that much just for online marketing, I'd hire an ad agency to come up with some proposals for me.
