How Would You Sell This Web Site?

I'm interested in selling one of my sites, mostly to see what the experience is like. I've selected one of my oldest and smallest sites, which I have long neglected. It's a five page site about a popular medical device. Site has less than 1,000 visitors per month, Google PR3, grosses about $50/month from Adsense and nets about $20/month after traffic costs. I would include my keyword lists with the sale.

    Questions:
    • Where is the best place to list this site for sale (Sitepoint, Digital Point, eBay or other?)
    • What do you think the site will sell for?
    • What can I do to market this site in the best possible way?

Also, I appreciate links to any resources that outline how to manage and the sales process, especially the mechanics of transfer and payment.

I look forward to reading everyone's advice!

I think right here would be the best place to sell it.
Most sites sell for content, then 1-2 years revenue (you'll more often see them go for 1 year).

Yes digitalpoint is probably the best marketplace available right now, especially since sitepoint has gone down hill.

Post a thread in the "Sites for Sale" subforum here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52

I'd suggest you make it an auction so that you can get the best price, specify a minimum reserve (if you want).

Make it a 3 - 7 day auction, that allows enough time for prospective buyers to see it yet isn't too long a time that bidders lose interest.

Typically, adsense based sites go for around 6-10 months income - so with $20/month that means a likely price of $120-$200. Is that ok by you? You might get a little more if the domain name is attractive.

Most likely option for payment is Paypal, given the above price range. Make sure you get your funds, then transfer the domain / content. Domain transfer is usually a push from your account to the buyers account with the same domain name registrar. Re content transfer - if this has a separate hosting / cpanel, you can provide access; otherwise, backup the site, zip it, and either email or provide a download link.

    Hope this helps.

Exactly what I was looking for newrhodes, thanks!

I of course just got all of my data and exhibits prepared and tried to post the auction, only to find out that I have to wait until I'm a DP member for two weeks.
