how would you recommend promoting an adult site?

Just hire someone to promote your adult site. Such as oDesk.com, getafreelancer.com and elance.com that sites are really trusted that all providers have the ability to promote sites. And also you could do chat,article writing and in PPC.

Go on forums, post some adult on the forums and make backlinks from those forum to your site. Ask what sort of adult people like to watch/see. Put your site in your forum-signature. Like Malfumos said, hit up the adult boards. Also if you want to run a link list there are a ton of them out there, you just have to buy some traffic to start up your trades.

 

also, you can use adult chats for promos beside other method.
The hottest place for adult is adult video sites like Youtube. there are couple of them in the internet

 

Adult sites need no promotion it grows by itself (if you have somthing special).... LOL

to see what porn is popular, just go to pornhub and see what is being viewed frequently.
