Tough business to get into. What sets you apart? Are you already marketing locally? With all the competion that you'll have on the internet, be able to offer personal service would help set you apart...

We try to set ourselves apart by being a middle ground between huge volume bulk business card pritning with crap design and high-class expensive graphic designers.

I haven't marketed locally at all, only a bit of on-site SEO and link building.

Well, I would think that offering local, face-to-face design services would be a place to start...you'd be able to help guide your customers to what is appropriate for them...and hopefully, profitable for you. Competing on the internet for business cards is going to be tough, considering companies like VistaPrint, etc. will lose money on the first couple of orders just to get the customer...JMO.

    Not like this!
I would put it in front of the people who are in need of your services, or products.

I would try to find a few small business networking events to go to

then find a trade show and get a booth. It could build a large base of customers

Yes, you need to market to small business owners - but be prepared to "prove" your quality.

Also, I know its a different country, but in Canada I can usually bargain down to $40-$55 for 1000 1 sided cards (I do the design). www.xe.com/ucc for that comparison.

Anyway, you have to make local contacts and get big jobs (i.e. everyone in an office) to be profitable, in my opinion.
