So I have some basic html/css skills, dangerous I know:).
I put together a website for my company and it works, but
I want something a LOT more finished. I sell one product
in 5 sizes. I need an About us, Shopping, blog, home page
    etc.

I have been looking at templates but I cant find one that
fits my business. They are either corporate style pages
that don't have the pizaazz a sales site needs, or they are
catalog sites designed for hundreds of products. I cant find
anything in between. I kinda need a catalog page but on
the main page It needs to have tons of room for copy/pics
    to sell the product.

Here is the current site: http://www.tv-armor.com

How would y'all do it? Keep the side nav or go top nav?
I sorta like the current site but it really lacks finish. It
would be nice if it could expand as the res changes without
looking screwy. What should I do?

BTW I would consider hiring someone to do it
but I just dont know what to ask for in a design.

How do you work with your clients to get them started
with a design when they dont know what they want
    exactly?

I'd take note of the colours you've chosen (some good choices there) and work from there.
Top nav probably would be better.
PM me if you want to discuss more.

I'd design something a bit more vivid, with a top navigation bar and a quicknav at the bottom. Your product's logo and name should be at the very top with a short description right under it so people can quickly determine what your product is, and what it does without having to scan the page.

In your case, since you only sell one product, a single column layout should enough without the need for a side menu.

    Cool product by the way!
