Hi there! So I have an old blog which I haven't updated in ages. The domain is like 5 years old or so, it's just sitting there making a few bucks here and there with adsense. So I would like to add some new posts with a new theme and with an absolutely different concept. My issue is that I don't want to loose the old posts. I still would like those posts to be saved and served when somebody wants to access them (using permalinks). Is there a way in WordPress to add some posts into some kind of archive that it won't show in list of posts etc. only if somebody tries to access those posts directly using a link? Thanks!
you can use data export tool to export all categories, posts etc and then later update your new blog. Just see under settings. If not you need to download a wordpress plugin. to do export. Its easy and isnt hard.
Hm maybe my question wasn't well formulated. I want to have the old posts there in the system, I just don't want them to show anywhere on the sites, only when somebody tries to access them by a direct link
No. You either want them,or you don't. If you start to add new posts, those older posts will move down the list and eventually disappear from sight, but they will still be accessible from the blog search or archive pages. You can't delete them from the blog, yet still have them available...but you can push them to the back burner with new content.
Try to change the posts as unpublished. If that doesnt work change the post status to draft. see if that works If nothign works you need to use some kind of plugin that throws 404 error when the post is accessed.
Hm good idea, also about the plugin. For sure there is one for that, but how do I find it (for what should I serach for)? Thanks!
If you do that, then the posts will not be accessible at all by typing in the URL or any other way. If the problem is, he needs to keep the same URL for the posts, then they have to stay where they are. If you move them, you change URLs. A 404 redirect plug in has to have something to redirect to. It will do you no good if you move or disable the posts.
Awesome! Thanks for the idea! http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-hide-post/ Sometimes, you want to create a "low-profile" addition to your blog that doesn't belong on the front page, or maybe you don't want it to show up anywhere else in your blog except when you explicitly link to it. This plugin allows you to create such "hidden gems".
