If you meant to ask "how would I know IF my backlink counts" then all of the mentioned backlink analyzers might very likely be of little use. Search engines do not return the whole list of links they are aware of, just a small portion of it, so you might not see a newly gained link there. Rather check if the backlink page has been indexed AFTER you put a link to your site on it using the "info:URL" operator in Google. If it has been already re-crawled with the link on it then most probably this link counts.

If you want to count your exact backlinks that search engine consider then you would need to go google.com or yahoo.com and just type link:youdomainname.com press enter and you would come to know about your backlink list.

In the other hand you can tray backlinkwatch.com to see whole backlinks to your site.

If you have a goole webmaster tools account, then it is much easier and correct method to check the backlink count, for my sites i can see almost all the links that i have built there, only downfall is it shows you all the links, even sitewide links are shown as one backlink each for each page of the site, sometimes it can be overwhelming and you give up, else that is IMO the best tool

The best backlinks you can have are from Yahoo Directory and DMOZ.Getting in DMOZ is a shot in the dark, but if you do, it helps a lot, or can but wont hurt. Google has changed its algorithm to lean more on the bounce rate than backlinks.
