do a little bit of research mate, microsoft would never be able to buy google as they maintain enough stock to prevent a hostile takeover (and like they would ever have a non hostile bid lol).

Google is microsoft's only "competitor" in the world now, true they mainly inhabit different niche's, but google is the only company with enough clout to not bow down to MS.

Regarding the Microsoft/Yahoo mergers effect on the directory market, I dont see how it would affect things at all given that again, most directory owners concerns are with google - perhaps in a 12 month to 3 year timeframe yahoo/MS might have more of an even footing for search traffic, then we will have to spend more time on joint SEO targetted at BOTH SE's, but for now there is no effect that I can forsee.

Just like in real life, when the company that has the monopol gets a serious challenger, the end-consumer has mane advantages (lower prices, products are getting better and better,a variety of products & services, etc)

Steve Balmer of MS said Yahoo did not meet its expectations with their Panama launch, YPN so he put in his bid.

Yahoo initially felt they were worth more than $32 a year ago, especially after the Panama launch. This did not go well.
In addition, the downturn in the USA economy due to dollar devaluing and housing is making the stock market decline so there are some so-called bargain prices for public companies like Yahoo.

Yahoo nor MS has made any strides toconquer Google or compete on a equal level, so what benefit will occur?
In my experience most tech companies this size are run better as separate entities.
Correct me if I am wrong, but these large mergers have not seen the expected results that CFO's foresee.

A case in point, forgive the pun, Steve Case and AOL / Time Warner. Google and Youtube ( G possibly paid too much ).

Yahoo is much better than MS.. pls don't change email format to crap like hotmail. ...oh no..!!

I can agree that its very doubtful if MSN did happen to buy them that the name or services would be changed
But i would assume that they would share technology in search results to try and catch up with google as they
are the superior when it comes to search and advertising revenue.

I also agree that the US recession will have a play in online spending as the USA and UK
are the biggest spenders and when the US suffers so does the worlds economy...

Take a look any SEs stock and see what will happen in the next few months as many are already
starting to dump shares due to the inevitable recession and fear associated with it...

    thx

As much as I'm not a huge fan of Google, I use them almost exclusively for searches. The reason is quite simple - if I want news, videos and all that other junk; I'll go to a real news source. If I want to search, I don't want to wait for all that other crap to load before I can.

If and when Yahmi figures that out, then we may see some true competition happen.

This move makes sense of Microsoft's closure of the Small Business Directory. Why would they want to run that when they're planning to buy out their major competitor?

    Hello....

heheheheh Guess whos screaming FOUL! lol

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080204/ap_on_hi_te/microsoft_google

"Microsoft's hostile bid for Yahoo raises troubling questions," David Drummond, Google's chief legal officer, wrote.
"This is about more than simply a financial transaction, one company taking over another.

It's about preserving the underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation."

    thx

it's hard to say how this would affect, especially in the directory industry at this point. But I am hoping this would create a more competitive environment among search engines, and hopefully Google's monopoly gets slowed down.

    Google is a hypocrit...

    http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/04/0130235

hahahaha... looks like Yahoo is willing to go with the biggest baller, and now Gaygle is wanting to alliance. Now wouldn't that just go against what they were just crying foul over?

ohh the iroooooony of it all.

Bottom line is; Google is SCARED!

I suppose google will have to match the current bid if it wants it "alliance" as
yahoo seems to think they are worth more then what MSN bidded in stock price

If they get together, Microsoft and Yahoo would have about 16 percent of the worldwide Internet search market — still far behind Google's 62% percent share, according to comScore Media Metrix. But Microsoft and Yahoo already are far bigger in than Google in e-mail and instant messaging, and conceivably would be in a better position to squash rival services if they combined.

Well it seems that a court battle is looming....

    thx

Actually google is probably loving every minute of it! Microsoft just keeps on blowing money, they lose money with every xbox360 they sell and now this!!! If they keep up like this, they wont last to much longer.:D:D And just think about this.. after they blow 50 billion to get yahoo, it's gonna take em awhile to get more money to utilize what they just bought!!:D

You cant break MSNs pocket book....

Im wondering why Ask.com doesnt get in the mix?
