    Well, it really depends on how many site adopt it. I now use it on two sites - and that means it's starting to look like it may stick.
    In general: the idea is good. Why bother with a gazilion login-names with passwords and all that? So if on the developers-side it's easy to implement, it may have a future.
    I don't really think yahoo and google are competition. This thing will mainly work for all those independent forums, tools, social networking sites etc. out there.

    Right now, IMO, most Webmasters barely notice or talk about OpenID.
    It will be huge, in the near future.

    OpenID 1.x was just upgraded a week ago, and security improved.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    OpenID 2.0, later this year, is much more mature and powerful.
    Really well, but...
    Right now:
    • the OpenID code libraries
    • API, and
    • .../endless/hell/'sample_use'.php...
    ...are pretty tough to figure out, unless you are a 'real programmer'.
    ~~
    ~~
    /ps. To anyone with PHP/MySQL skill: If you are a 'real programmer', please PM me with a reasonable price quote for full integration of OpenID with MyBB (a great open source forum)
    //A 'real programmer' can easily use the added "extra features related to registration"
    ///The basic install, is pretty limited...
    ...for a 'useful app' you need to be able to understand 'developer-level'...
    ...ummm....:eek: ..."stuff which is still hard, even after you try."
    ////I can provide tons of current (OpenID related) links & useful info to any 'real programmer', who gives me a reasonable price quote.
    Enjoy :)
