Get Firefox and then get the add ons Firebug and Page Speed. That'll give you good ideas.

You could also use gzip or optimize your images and scripts and compress them to improve load speeds. Failing everything, you could try switching to a hosting company with a 1Gbps uplink?

optimizing image and scripts are just few aspect of performance optimization, refer to Google's "Web Performance Best Practices" and Yahoo's "Best Practices for Speeding Up Your Web Site" they're just awesome :)

Use our old pal Photoshop to convert your images to .jpeg . Keep the quality but reduce the size .

a few optimization from me :

    - less query. keep your css, script, and any other query as low as possible. its better to merge some css or script.
    - reduce image size. like ApocalypseXL said, use photoshop, and when saving your image, use CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+S , it will open "save for web". You can choose preset there or make a new one. Just keep the image size small but keep the image quality.
    - use CDN (Content Delivery Network). use google CDN for you jQuery or any other script. Check Google Api for more information. ( code dot google dot com )
    - use CSS, not table. CSS will load for the first time only and will be saved in browser cache.

anyway, can you share your URL of your site ?
so we can determinate what you could do to optimize you site.

    http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/docs/rules_intro.html
    http://developer.yahoo.com/performance/rules.html
    Code (markup):
You can find lots of info on how to improve your page loading speed at the url's i posted.
If you have large images you can use photoshop to minimize the size while preserving the quality(like ApocalypseXL said). You can also do some css sprites(combine images in one) and then load it with the help of javascript after the DOM has loaded.

P.S. you website loaded instantly for me, maybe it's your internet connection too.

One thing that i have done when i have had this issue is either; Change your website hosting company, if there speeds are slow or use a free tool like Faststone image re-sizer to slightly (not much) resize your images and this can lower their file size greatly.

.jpg or .jpeg are very good for websites and load fast , so if needs be, convert them

    Regards,

Make sure the images you are using you must use the option "Save For Web".

The images will not be that much big in size then.

Download http://www.getpaint.net then when you will be saving images in .jpg you can determine the quality of the images and can reduce the KB size significantly.

If you upload your images via PHP script, use compression to get smaller photos with same quality.

    1. Use Photoshop to compress images. I generally use Jpg 60%.
    2. Implement client side caching.
    3. Use gzipping
    4. Analysie your site with Yslow and Page speed.
    5. Use sprites to load all images at once.
    6. Also look at other componenets of your site which might be also contributing to increased document size.
    7. You can use the web developer toolbar in FF to see your document size.

Yeap, totally agreed as I am using it to monitor my page loading speed and it provides detailed information on your website loading processes.

If you are having media file concentrated site, you can consider on using CDN services.
