    Only if you write sh*t for HTML.
    It was... that has kinda fallen off the wayside, mostly due to M$ not complying with their promises.
    But we cannot define it as such without extra crap for the most popular browser in the world... thus, we who write in XHTML are doing "fake" XHTML... we use the syntax, but don't send as an XML application (jamesicus does send as XML and does a little song and dance for IE just to show it can be done).
    As is HTML4.01 Strict.

    We can use either or, but it's better when people truly know the differences and when they matter. There's currently no need for XHTML-- it's just a question of which syntax you prefer (closing empty elements etc). Plus, the browser vendors are busy with HTML5-- yet another thing that may get stillborn, who knows.
