How/when strategies for incoming links pointing to a subpage instead of the homepage?

    Hi guys,

I have a dilemma that I am not sure how to solve:

I am marketing a particular site for keyword X, and I have just gotten a PR 7 link to point to the site.

What I can't figure out whether its better to point the PR 7 link with anchor text X to the homepage of the site or to a subpage focused on keyword X? I am sure others have had situation before.

Almost all of the links to this site point to the homepage, but I have heard its good to get links to subpages, yet I have never seen any strategy around this.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I think some deep links reflect a more "natural" linking pattern. I have a car related site and on his own, a chevy buff deep linked to the chevy section of the site. I sometimes craft a new landing page for the inbound link that provides a contextual bridge bwetween the two sites.

Do you make links to subpages any particular percentage of incoming links? For example do you have 20% point to subpages, the rest to homepages?

I point it to where I think it has the best fit with the content of my site and have not worried about anything else beyond that.
