How do you post to a wordpress blog using email when the blog is hosted on your own server and not wordpress.com I am starting to realize this is the only way to build both mine and my clients websites. Many features and the ability to update using email!
Tried before.. Using SMTP, my own server, never success.. Waiting other members.. Please share your experience Guys..
Haven't really tried it myself, but in theory here's one way it works. Sign up for Google alerts or something with an email address you set at Settings/Writing - Post via e-mail
Are you trying to autopost using the email function ? That's now how it's done....invest in a good autoblogging script. I don't know how well it will actually grow the blog, since a blogs success is usually based on compelling, original and informative content...but they will at least autopost content. I have never gotten the email post to work properly...too many theme variables like featured images, tags, categories, and any plug in functions that need attention when constructing a post like All in One SEO, etc. Email posting doesn't account for all of that. Why do you think is it easier to post by email, than to just log into the blog ? If you are on a computer with internet access, seems like posting by email is just going out of your way not to do it properly.
"If you are on a computer with internet access, seems like posting by email is just going out of your way not to do it properly." I agree with hmansfeild. Why exactly do you want to post by email? TarantulaWebWorks
I am actually wanting to cut and paste from my old site (about 100 pages) into five new wordpress version of my new one. I can do it once by email or five times the old fashioned way. It turns out to be 100 posts or 500 posts. I know how to autoblog no problem.
So then, set up an autoblog using your old site as the feeder so that the information is added gradually, or use the import function in WP to transfer the content.
Thanks. I checked into the import function and just happen to have the entire site on blogger and it looks like I can import from there no problem. Gives you the option to import from many different sites. Appreciate the help
