I have a site that sells cookies by the dozen. Would it be in my best interest to get it listed on Shopzilla? Has anyone used them before? What did you think? How much traffic did they send you?
Traffic from Shopzilla, and her sister BizRate didn't convert well for a clothing niche, and a retail gift niche. The average number of page views from a Shozilla visitor was 1.5 pages compared to an average of 12.5 pages per visitor from PPC and organic search. I DO recommend using their survey code in your checkout. It doesn't cost anything, and it gives you insight that your customers may not otherwise tell you. Shopzilla and BizRate ARE good for name branding, but not for direct sales conversions.
Here is another one I have used for a website selling old books and I got good results.. ShopMania.com
Shopzilla (BizRate) is bad news all around for me and I would stay away from them. They seem to have an issue with click fraud or miscalculated clicks. I spent a few hundred dollars there in a matter of days and when I checked the stats (from 2 different sources) I saw there was a problem. I approached them and discussed this issue, showing them documentation of the clicks sent (about 200 clicks difference) and after providing all the necessary information they used the “scrubbing rules†excuse. The case ended with one of their "professionals" telling me that they delivered actually more traffic then they charged me for!! She concluded that my claim had no merit, basically telling me to F$#^ Off. What was nice was that she also made some interesting claims: they stand behind their system, its flawless and never makes mistakes, and they never provide credit for clicks. It’s nice to be perfect Google can make adjustments once a month for clicks but Shopzilla doesn’t believe in that silliness… In terms of customer support they basically have none. They use a contact form for communication with vendors. So there is no way to track a case and you can't develop a direct email thread with them. That's intentional by the way. Also, there system has a huge lag apparently when you manage the campaign. So you can turn off a campaign and apparently it takes 24-36 hours for changes to take effect - all the while of course watching as your money disappears. Finally, try getting your unspent money used. They basically tell you to deposit more or they freeze your account. Real nice people…
I have used Shopzilla for 6 months. It is *okay*. Not great, not bad. It is true that there are probably niches that work well and those that don't.
