Despite being an IM noob, my intuition tells me the first step to making sales is getting familiar with the product you're selling. So, I was wondering... when you guys set out to promote something new, do you always start by purchasing the ebook? Sometimes? Never? Also I'm wondering... are there tricks for getting discounts? Will some product developers be willing to provide affiliate marketers with review copies? Can I just buy the book from my own hoplinks and get back my comission from the full price? Please comment; Thanks, P.
Contact the product owner and ask for a review copy. Most of them would happily provide you with a review copy otherwise purchase it from your own affiliate link.there is no harm in doing that.
And when you contact the vendor, be sure to tell them that you would much rather get a review copy so that you don't have to buy it and then request a refund. The refunds don't do much for their stats and most of them will give you the copy.
I have to admit that most of the time I don't exactly know what the actual product is. Just the refund rate, so I am not promoting the product for nothing. Reading the product can help you become more creative in your promotion.
My best selling product as an affiliate - I first purchased for myself and then became an affiliate for it. I continue to purchase for personal use sometimes and ask for review copies sometimes. But for many of the product I promote - I go by the age of the product (the test of time), how well the copy reads on the sales page (a sense of quality), its gravity and how well the product fits with my websites. And, finally, if there are any affiliate tools to use. I cannot tell you how often I am frustrated by some publishers who can't get a banner or two together for affiliate use. I do a lot of blog posting, as well as add new pages to various websites everyday and sometimes I just want to add a banner to the post. I find a relevant product that matches with my content, but no artwork is available. Then I check the gravity for that product and see that it is really low - I wonder why....
I nearly always ask for a review copy (and most times I get one), however if it's a topic I'm really interested in myself I just go ahead and buy it. Knowing your product and giving a real review (rather than a mini sales pitch based on the sales page) can really boost your conversions.
Well i have never read the ebooks nor bought them but after reading that it might increase my convesions i went a head and requested a review copy, since ive already made him 4 sales and have 4 sites and a few hub pages dedicated to the product i would find it doubtful he would say no... if not then guess i would have to do as you mentioned and get a copy and then get a refund since the niche is not something i desire to read for my own benrfit.
If you are good and once you prove yourself as an affiliate some owners will give you a review copy upon request. It does help to know what you are selling and the common sense part of you is right.
Been running 3 products and request 2 ebooks, one of each and i must say after reading it and checking what i wrote about it i feel ten times better about my article, maybe its luck or maybe its the edits but i made a sale 2 days straight with the product now.
