I believe even asking about it will get you banned so be careful!

I totally agree with your statement... I have been a member here for over 5 years or more... was a little disappointed when I logged into this new "like system"!

Well enough gripping... time to go "help" some folks out!

Ohh my dear friend...I don't know why are you looking for like? Did you joint to this forum only for getting likes and getting authority to post into market place? Did you visit all other sections ever? I think not so...there are various kinds of knowledge you can achieve...and also may help to others.

At first, go to help others with your own knowledge and experience...the "like" - you will get definitely if you have quality... !!!

As has been eluded to by a few other people in this thread, it can be especially hard if you are only comfortable giving advice in a forum where there are very few established members.

In my specific case my personal area of expertise is Joomla. I know enough about it to be very helpful in assisting people with their problems in that forum and do so very regularly even though that forum is not nearly as often used as some of the others on this site.

The problem is that by my rough estimate 70% or more of the people who post the seed questions in that forum are not established members and thus couldn't Like my responses even if my advice helped them solve an issue that had been troubling them for weeks. At the same time because of human nature if an established member posts a response to the same question it is fairly certain that they will not then go and Like my response because they answered it as well.

I hope this didn't come off sounding like a rant because it was not my intention to do so. I understand why DP made the change, and it is far better this way than it was in the old in terms of quality.

Since the change the incidence of people trolling to post unhelpful junk comments has gone down a lot compared to the old DP. Still, if someone's post is helpful and accurate it deserves to be liked. When and if I ever manage to get established I am not going to be stingy with my praise of others.

The problem with using a Best Answer option to get to be established is that it could easily be manipulated. Someone posts a question, their friend posts the answer and then the first friend marks it as best answer... While it is not perfect the Like system is a lot harder to take advantage of.

I wouldn't worry too much. Sometimes I post an answer, but also like someone else's answer. Or sometimes I read a thread, it doesn't help me directly but I know that x person's response will help others, so I'll give it a like to show my "vote" for quality content. I wouldn't be surprised if other people took a similar approach, too.

If you "just joined" then how would you know that it's "impossible" to get likes?

because its pretty obvious.. doesn't take much to think that a website that allows you to become a member for free if you get 3 likes, there must be some catch. As well as this entire post is about "how to get likes" and everyone seems to be struggling.. just suggests to me that many people don't like the new system - "hence" very hard to get likes..:)

Yeah, it's so difficult. I'll be back in a few years when I've finished writing my plan on how to do it. :p

If you have absolutely nothing interesting to post, then yes... it will be impossibly difficult. If you have something interesting to post that is worth reading, it's really easy. Which is all by design. :)

could you elaborate on that? what would you say is interesting or does it depend on what were taking about?

What I find interesting isn't necessarily what you or anyone else will find interesting. It's subjective.

No, because you don't have access t the Politics and Religion area.

But even if you did, are you really asking me if some random person I don't know is going to like some random thing you write when I don't know what you would write?

I still don't get it, "You must be a member for over 48 hours and have 3 or more likes" I don't see any option in the posts for "Like" feature.
Anyone help me how to get "like" ??

Have you thought of using your own initiative and reading the many threads on this? Rocket science and all that.
