    Yes I would say:

    - Avoid overusing keywords on your website as SE's can consider this keyword stuffing
    - Try to vary the anchor text on your backlinks so your link profile looks natural
    - Avoid excessive link exchanges
    - Be selective who you link to, if you link to a site that is 'black-hat', you could end up being penalised
    - Be selective where you get your links from, don't think that any link is a good link and try to get most of your links from relevant sites in your industry
    - Keep everything 'white-hat', so no hidden text etc.
    - Avoid duplicate content

There's probably loads more but those are a few I can think of off-hand at the minute.
    Hope that helps

It's kind of common sense really, you know when you've gone too far when your optimization everything you can, you don't need to add ALT/TITLE tags to everything for example, but some people do, this would be over-optimization because the ALT/TITLE tags don't add any sort of extra value to the websites page/SEO effect, they are purely there to attempt to increase the rank by using them. Not what they are designed for.

Agree you just have to set your priorities and those should be visitors and content. Such things as keyword stuffing make no good at all. So my only idea is asking yourself once in a while - 'am I going to far?'

Exactly my point, you won't stuff keywords, unless you intend to, you should have a switch in your mind 'Maybe I'm stuffing too many keywords here'

You can never do to much seo. The more the better, more backlinks, more articles, etc..

As long as you keep everything natural, you are not overusing SEO on your website.

    Tips:

    1. Unique Titles on every page
    2. Quality and optimized content (with suitable keyword density)
    3. Not too much keywords in file names, ALT tags and Title tag
    4. No links from link farms & spam/banned sites

Hope this would help you out!

Follow google webmaster guidelines and do seo work according to this, if your site ranking is increasing then do the same and try to maintain your ranking. If you site start to go down then you should understand that something is going to wrong and stop work on that way (over seo).

    Thanks
