It is definately a good investment. I have seen people buying out 100 domains at one time all LLLL.coms AlienGG might want to look at some heavy duty domainers when it comes to cheap investment. Imagine 100 domains for 6.95 = 695 dollars of investment In 6 months it sells for 20 each 100 domains x 20 each = 2000 Total profit = 2000 - 695 = 1305 Just to sit on that domain names for 6 months or so. But you have to be wise while choosing the right domain name. Otherwise this money are just gone down the drain.
I am not sure if you are a member at NP. But one of the members have/has a competition going on at the moment. The person who is running it believes all the LLLL.com's will be taken up by the fall of 2007. All the dates are taken and the winner will recieve 4 LLLL.com's. One of them having 3 of the letters as Q. The thread can be found here. For me I lost the bet, because I guessed December 25th-31st, 2006
All the slots are already taken up on that thread. It's just a matter of waiting it out to see who the winner is. I think the last guess was taken up last part of November early part of December 2006.
Yup found that out. Well, it is so hard finding really good 4 letter domain names that arent just like ydrn. It's been fun though. Skinny
Funny story. So i was buying up 4 letters, trying to find some available and randomly searching. None available. I see bkev.com for sale for like 40.00 and usually wouldnt bite but since has kev in it for my name and thought be cool to have. I buy it. I find a list, of course outdated soon after and goto bulk buy and find 1 available so i get it UAJR.com sounded ok. For giggles I type in 4kev.com and buy it for 6.95 on godaddy. Would have never bought the one for 40. I have bought 25 and wont pay over 10.00 per name and you can get on ebay for that range or less. Beware of domain guys who list and then wont sell since there price wasnt met and make up reasons after.
I woke up early this morning and thought to run the list for the last time. When I posted the names here: http://www.nameslot.com/Super-High-Profile-t-1114.html#pid3182 The majority of them are going like hot cakes in 5 hours most of them are registered also.
Ya well nick's theory is good. But I can't seem to sell any domains for more 5 or 10. I'd love even 30 dollars. Even more than 4 letters should be at least 30 or so as long as it pronouncable. Thanks, ivnj
4 letters that start with K or W could be for US radio or TV stations. Mexican stations start with X. Canadian stations with C. Now I'll sit back to watch the rush.
There is good list of 4 letter abbreviations and possible meanings here: http://www.stuartbruce.net/abbrev/4/index.shtml
It is interesting to see such speculation purely on length as value. Someone posted 100 domains going up to $20 is around $1300 profit. Interesting view. Here is another: $695 today is not worth 695 tomarrow especially in the domain name market. So yes you might end up with $1300 more down the line (mind you time=money to sell 100 names this cuold take quite a bit, and don't forget transaction costs, 35 cents and 3% for paypal - about 100 dollars transaction costs), how big a profit does that really look like now? Factor in opportunity cost, you could have spent the money on one domain name, a generic .com with some traffic, it earns revenue (qvzp.com isnt getting any if you didnt know), online advertising increases, your domain name appriciates by a factor of three and you can sell based on revenue, traffic and just the name being good for a company to use. The real question is - now have you made a profit? if you could have made more money spending this investment in fact you have lost money (well technically not gained as much as possible). Just some food for thought. pronouncable, brandable short .coms will always have a market, your garbage letters only have a market in the reseller area.... don't hold your breath for any big sales, and some day I expect someone is giong to be real unhappy when people realize names that have such garbage letters simply aren't worth anything anymore (look at the price peopel are paying for trademark domains these days)
BTIG.com sold for $10,000 on SEDO btig is not a word and really is just a buch of random letters. What do you say to that then.
Goes to show that in the domain biz, you never know. You cant predict. You have to go for it, speculate. Many have become rich, others have wasted their dough. Mike
It help to have 4 letters that are short for something. BTIG LLC must have wanted the domain really bad. "BTIG LLC is a brokerage and trading house..formed in June 2005 through the merger of Baypoint Trading LLC and Bass Trading LLC. Headed by Scott Kovalik and Steven Starker, BTIG is grounded by over 35 years of capital market experience."
I bought Vylt.com about a year ago for $15.. I'll hold on to it until it commands a great price. I may even roll out a new project on it.
