I have found searched (in inventory.overture.com) good keywords for my domain, and i found, it has over 500 000 hits in one/month, this keyword is (xxxx xxxx) http://xxxx-xxxx.com is already taken and available is http://xxxx-xxxx.tv, my question is, does google really prefers .com instead of .tv (better listing position)?
but are the .com and .tv even in default. how good is 500 000 searches keyword? bad/normal/good/very-good/super
Do you see .tv web sites on top of listings on search engines such as Google, MSN or Yahoo? It should answer your question. .COM is king in the SE world
It doesn't make a difference. I've seen many different extentions come up on the 1st page of Google. As to the value, having hyphens in .tv domains really kills the value of it, I'd suggest not having it Quite a lot, can't be bothered to count, but you can if you wish. People want US traffic. While both sites threoretically should rank the same if done the same. The .com would get substantially more clicks from US based surfers. I often wonder why people don't take that into account. I would always skip over a .tv or .pk or .whateverelse and skip to a lower ranked .com. Am I biased against foriegn domains, yes. Why? Because no serious respectable US based business would operate on a lesser domain extention. There are a couple exceptions, but they are just that, exceptions. So, in short, while Google or SE's may treat a .tv and .com the same . . . US surfers do not. Those two domains would not get the same click, if located in the same position. This is dependant to a degree on the type of site. A fan site might do okay with a .info, but I would never take a lesser domain seriously for a serious topic such as medical, etc. .tv or .anything other than .com or .net immediatly makes me think it is a foriegn owned website. When I see a .info, it means it is spam or owned by someone too cheap to spend $8. Again, nothing I would visit for a serious topic. This is my opinion as a us based surfer and based on what I see others doing. Others may think differently.
You do make a valid point. Dot com has & always will be king, & if you have the option of buying a .com or another extention for a business site, .com is always the best option. If the .com is already taken, you'll need to decide if you want to search for a different .com, which will probably be a lot longer, or if you will consider other extentions. It really comes down to, what type of site is the OP wanting to start. TV is great if you are starting a video site, but probably not the most suitable extention if you are wanting to start a full on professional business site. I have to disagree. The average user doesn't even know how to copy and paste, let alone know how to tell which country a domain is from just by looking at it. I'd go as far as to say that an average user would click the first Google result no matter what the title is either - they click just cause Google brought it up first. However, I myself would click most anything except for .info. They tend to be MFA websites with no real use
Thanks! It really does depend on the type of site. I agree somewhat, that many users are not very knowledgable about the different TLD's, but those that are would judge the two sites differently. I think it really depends on the type of site. But, all things being equal, I would take a .com or .net for my business. As for .info's, it is clear the .88 cent price made them the #1 TLD for spammers. Some people just see how popular they are and think .info are respected. It is the opposite, very soon .info's will be assumed to be spam - as you and I already do.
Yea, I agree that .com is much more respected and easy to remember. I know my mom for one will just type nameofbusiness.com without googleing, or considering the fact that it's .net or .org. .com FTW
At least your mom can find where to type the address/url. My mom types it into the seach box on her homepage instead of the address bar. That kills me when I see people do that. I give them an exact url and they type it into some damn msn search instead of directly into the address area.
