I know alot of people here (myself included) submit to directories, but how useful are they really? Surely, SE's will see them for what they are, a simple way of getting lots of backlinks.
SE wise good - you get content related backlinks from a decent PR page TRaffic wise - sucks.. no traffic
It pays if you are listed on a number of good PR Directories You get many value added benefits to help your site with traffic, PR etc
Most directories don't help at all. You cannot expect any traffic from them. SE wise....they suck as well..(unless it's dmoz, Y! or other reputable directories with tons of good links to themselves..). Most Directories are just pages with 100's of links thrown in with no real content...so obviously won't help a lot with SE..
if you can get your site listed by yahoo, or dmoz, your site will be well ranked. ____________________________ patent search patent information
its a good way of getting many backlinks if you are listed on a godd number of directories but they dont reaaly help in getting traffic.
Well, submitting to directories will get your site in there. You won't get much traffic, but the links will boost your PR if done well. But what about all the other sites in there? Most direcotories don't give you the opportunity to exchange links with them. My site does. Best of all, it's FREE !
If the directory have good PR where you can get link of Your Site. Is Very to you. But if your Site Have good PR and directories have not PR so It can be useful to directory.
Well I think its good to submit to directories I submit to directories but only those directories which have a PR 5,6,7,8 or above.
I've noticed that many directories seem to have a lot of pr on the homepage, but once you start to navigate to the relevant category, they seem to have no PR... is this a worthwhile submission?
PR isn't important at all. I look at pages that are relevant and that have relevant links, not some casino links !! Directory links are good because they are one-way and you put anchor text on your wish. BUT your site's backlinks can not base only on directory links because they are crap, only high trusted directories like Yahoo or Dmoz are valuable. Usually directories have tons of links on one page, there is no content and these links have no big value. You must have backlinks mix ... Remember the most valuable backlinks are links from relevant pages, and from text not from sitewide and on pages that have little amount of outgoing links. Todd Malicoat said this :
There are some directories with all pages of at least PR4. You can check out my blog to see a list of 20 of these.
Most inner pages in directories has very low PR even if the main page has 7, its the page where your link will be that are important.
It is but it seems to me that PR0 pages with good anchor text is still important to google. I've seen one cases where guy gets his 1st ranking mostly with directories and keywords in domains.
these links are free and also not of casino types so they dont hurt your PR either and also there are chances that there PR ( sub-pages ) will also rise then you will be having link on a better ranked page , hopefully. though you can also go for paid listings as well on esteemed directories .
IMO directory links helps. Infact all links help in SEO, as long as they are non-reciprocal. If you can get free links from directories, why not use them to improve your popularity?
Yeah, I believe links are important because I see them work every day. They are only one part of the game, but an important part. Don't waste your time with junk sites that have link pages unless you have lots of time. Directories are not always great, but they are free links. If you get 25 or 30 links with the same anchor text you will often rank well after the links are indexed.
