How useful & accurate are Domain Authority (DA) and Linking Root Domain(LRD) checker?

    How useful and accurate are latest site checks like Domain authority (DA) and Linking Root Domain (LRD) ? It is provided by opensiteexplorer.org and SEOmoz and is NOT free. Skeptics say that other site checks like PR checkers are free but DA and LRD are not free :(
    Are these DA and LRD tools just gimmicks and just another money making venture? :D
