Those who do get links (that count) from Twitter do so indirectly - by having people on Twitter link to them from their own Web sites.

All links within the twitter domains are no-follow. You cannot get any link juice directly from Twitter :(

Dan are you sure the mobile links are not "nofollowed"?

the more followers you have the greater the chance someone will click on your page, read your 140 character bio, and then click on your website.

Bein active on twitter so people investigate your website and maybe give you links from their own sites is the only way to utilize twitter for linkbuilding (unless you just beg people on there for links).

They were free and clear the last I checked, but you need to remember that was a few months ago. My recently deceased mother's failing health took precedence over ANYTHING Internet related if it wasn't centered around SEO.com (where I help administer the forums) or SitePoint.com (where I'm a Community Advisor).

I am not sure twitter links are "dofollow" or not. But I surely get decent traffic from it. But one needs to be careful while posting links on twitter. One: long links are shortened, so people won't come to know about your site unless they click it. Second: If you spam twitter, chances are that you will be blacklisted and no one will then follow your messages & links. So always post only relevant content on twitter. But bottomline is: twitter does send good amount of traffic.

JodhaAkbar, I get around that by using a URL shortener and then add [link: domain.tld] (where domain.tld is the domain name and top level domain of the site being linked to) afterword. For example, http://bt.ly/38ada3 [link: cnn.com]

(By the way, to the best of my knowledge, that link does NOT yet exist as of the time this post was published. And yes, I did test the link prior to pressing "Submit Reply")

generally if your planning on building links twitter is not what you want to focus on, twitter is really good for generating traffic when you have a descent amount of followers. As mentioned above it will not give you any links back
