Hey I'm transition to a new site and wondering what the effects are going to be so if someone can please help me out I'll greatly appreciate it.

    How will transitioning affect:
    - SEO/Search Engine Transitioning
    - Existing Links
    - If I use 301 redirects as planned will the new content eventually take over the old or will they be side by side?
    - Is there any way to lessen the negative effects of transitioning?

Any information will be great. Thanks!

I can comment only the 4. part. There was somebody who transferred a site (not sure if it was on this board) and he lost some good SERPs and traffic, and he had everything in place (301 redirects etc).. so there will be a negative impact, that's for sure

If the age of your new domain is younger than the old domain age, you will loose your positions whatever you do (301 redirects, etc). However, eventually (few years), you can get back to your positions, if all pages are 301 redirected and link/content building remain regular.

hi buddy...if you have a new website then please don't do so much SEO work on that site because Google banned this.

Transition is always a delicate and risky process, especially on already established sites. Anyway if you do the proper things in the right way you will minimize the downturn side effects.

If you do migrate links carefully with proper redirects they will pass the relevance and page rank to the new content. If you do the same with the content and keep up the keywords and relevancy within the text you won't have a huge shock in rankings.
And if you really want to maximally minimize ( sorry for the pun ) the negative effect - then do the migration in phases, not all in once.

Thanks for the insight. I recently found this on alexa.com faq page:

"When we merge statistics and listings, one site must be marked as the primary domain. Only primary domains carry their traffic history and Traffic Rank into a merged listing, although going forward both site primary and secondary domains contribute whatever data we observe for them to the same listing. In the case of redirected sites, the destination domain will be the primary domain for the listing."

Is that what you're talking about?
