Hi, I have heard that their is some way to track link exchanges so that if someone was to remove a link that they placed on their site that you would be ALERT somehow to this? In other words, if you exchange with someone and place their link on your site and they place your link on their site BUT THEN remove somewhere down the road - how do you know?? Is there some sort of pinging or something that can track this??? Thanks in advance Y
I'm not sure, well I check mine manually every month. I make sure I keep an excel sheet of their contact details, link exchange details and where my URL is placed for future reference. -Al
I use web site monitoring service - http://dotcom-monitor.com It sends me alert if something wrong with my links
Check out Link Assistant from Link Assistant sotware.. Not sure what their free option offers, but it does the monitoring like you want all in one place. http://www.link-assistant.com/linkassistant/
Exactly, I always use a spreadsheet to keep things like this organized. Then, once a month or so I click all the links and confirm that everything is still up. If there was some automatic system that did this, I probably wouldn't trust it. It only takes a second to do this manually and be 100% sure.
As suggested you may use an Excel file to take trace of the trades. This is useful especially if you made any ABC exchanges. Another quick way is to donwload the backlinks by the webmaster suites provided by the major search engines, i.e. Webmaster Tools (Google), Site Explorer (Yahoo). This implies of course that your site is (well) indexed by the above SEs.
I do mine manually. Just keep a list with your URL next to it and once a month or so just check out the page where your link should be posted... I've heard Link Assistant is good too though as someone else in this thread has recommended.
We were using an Excel sheet too, but between having hundreds of links to check, as well as keeping track of our own recips to them (making sure update guys didn't delete) it got out of hand. We coded a script to track them and check their availability and have been very happy with it. We made it available to everyone now and you can check up to 25 links for free. Heres a screenshot of what the tracking page looks like: w**.linktradetracker.com/images/link-manager.jpg Keep your excel sheet if your on the fence, but why not give it a try simultaneously. You can even import your excel sheet. If you want to try it, create an account and either put in a ticket mentioning this post or email me at brian at link trade tracker .com Ill set you up as a Pro user for 3 months to see if you like it. If anyone else wants to try do the same and I'll hook you up. Right now where just looking for feedback. thx Brian Link Trade Tracker .com
