How today's Search engines work?

Anyone will explain working of search engines and tell me how many types of search engines are present?

 

Search engines are an extremely powerful way of promoting your website online.
The great thing about search engines is they bring targeted traffic to your website. These people are already motivated to make a purchase from you- because they searched you out.

Types of search engines:

1- Crawler-Based Search Engines (like google and ask)

2- Directories (Like yahoo and dmoz)

3- Hybrid Search Engines (Like google and yahoo)

4- Meta Search Engines (Like metacrawler and dogpile)

5- Specialty Search Engines (Like froogle.com, bizrate.com etc)

 

There are lots of search engine out there but only few of them are popular. Here are short list of active search engine.

 

Search engines automatically create website listings by using spiders. well there are a ton of search engine but few are popular such as google, bing, yahoo etc.

I explain for google. Google has software program which called Robot. It continuously crawl the site and categorize all the websites as per its pre defined factors. It stores all the sites in google database,. So basically it does the work of adding , updating and deleting data of all websites available on net. when someone searches on google it compare that term with database and displays most prominent result..

Today there are many search engine that you can find around the world wide web. The three popular search engine that I know are google, yahoo and msn/bing

 

Does anyone have experience with Ethicle? A few friends of mine think it's the next great thing because they offset carbon by planting a tree for every 100 searches. I looked and it wasn't listed in the list that Credasys posted but it wasn't there.
