I started a new directory and I have already seen the amount of junk that gets submitted when you allow free listings. Problem is I made a very small fee and the submissions just stopped. How do you get people to pay on an unknown quantity? Is the only way to get people to pay having a high page rank?
build backlinks, a strong reputation and dont settle for less than great quality. hurry though the new pagerank is going to be here soon!!!!! *crosses fingers*
I won't pay to a new directory website for a feature link. If I have budget, I'll pay those PR4+ directories.
ive been lucky, ive sold some prime landscape with a pr0...but my dir has been my life for the past month or so and im not going to stop putting energy in it anytime soon!!!
People would consider is it one-month-directory. Also try to be unique in content and design, it would help you get more submission.
I have always started a directory and the price is $7 for regular and 14 for featured. But I get 100 or so paid links in just one month. This are all the returning customers who have purchased a link from me in past.
For new directories it will take a time atleast a month for earning a money well if you interested to get more $$$ from dir you have to get more back links and waiting for next PR update.
By demonstrating your commitment. There are three basic ways: First, show you care about the directory by giving it a unique look. Second, add the right number of listings. Too few and you look like another QBC directory. Too many and no-one will want their site to be listed amongst such a huge pile of low-quality sites. Thirdly, promote your directory in as many places as you can afford. This is how you go from being an unknown quantity to something everyone is talking about.
Design can help, but other than that you really have to wait. Build backlinks and then you can make the big bucks..haha...
Just keep the $0.50 price tag, if people don’t want to spend $0.50 why you would lose 1 minute reviewing the site.
I think rushing to get homepage links and such can actually have adverse affects, and it is better to wait for pagerank and traffic to increase a little before trying to sell links. Some people who have a proven track record for building a quality directory sometimes find they can more easily sell featured links on a new directory, because there is an added sense of trust and quality.
1. get a good custom designed skin to show people that you're in for the long term 2. remove the copyright link of your script - pay for it of course - to show people that you're in for the long term 3. when you post your 'advert' to ask for submissions, tell people 2 things: a. you will invest in your directory so you directory will be growing b. if they submit now, their submission will be in page 1 of their category of choice
i don't even waste time to add my website free into a new directory, unless it is owned by a DP user.
Then there are those directory owners that have paid directories that will NOT pay to have them included into other directories, but will jump all over free! That is my pet peeve and rant for the day.
You should purchase custom design..I have a friend he opend brand new directories with awesome skins and paid directories and he gets alot of sumissions.. Saad
There are some great tips in here. I wouldn't pay for a link in a new directory unless it was going to kick butt in the future but I definitely would pay for a decent link in a half established directory that was at the right price - right incentive and right packaging, provide all this was explained to me and I had trust. Design does go a long way in getting me to click the paypal button
