I worked at Groupon for two years, and we had to complete each advertorial in 45 minutes, including research, editing HTML, little bits and bobs that just take up time.

I can only tell you that two years of 8 hour days trying to complete 10 pieces of copy took its toll, but it was also the constant robotic workload that gave me the start to professional writing that I needed.

So, I know this is annoyingly obvious, but practice is just the key. Get 10 short briefs, give yourself constant deadlines for 7-8 hours (or however hard you want to push yourself), and do this for a prolonged period of time if you have the time to spare (a week should do it).

After putting yourself through that, it will probably come naturally to you to write fast, even if you're not under pressure. Also, if you're writing about the same kind of topic often, it helps to create a bank of key phrases and words to fall back on when you aren't at your most creative. Hope that helps a little bit.

Write about something you enjoy. It's amazing how much quicker the words will flow.

    One word: Practice

Practice, practice, practice. Words will come to you even more as a reflex when you're using and reusing them over and over. Even new words that you introduce to your brain's vocabulary along the way will stick with time and practice. A bizarre way to think about it is like how your brain is one big muscle, and exercising and constantly tuning it to writing is just like instilling muscle memory.

    • Write what you really know
    • Write with both hands
    • Share the keyboard with your each hand. For e.g. use left hand for the left section of keyboard [ i.e. not more after button 6. And rest for the right hand.
    • Try online typing speed tests.
    • Practice, practice and practice. One month of practice and you don't even need to look at your keyboard while typing.

    1) Try to develop your expertise in a field as it will help you save time in doing more research. By this way, you will write much more in the time available.
    2) Try to increase your typing speed as it will really make a difference. Though you may be a subject expert, you can't complete a 500 word article in 1 hour if you don't have good typing skills. So do what's required in figuring out the order of keys. To confirm your success in this, close your eyes at night and try to figure out every key from left to right in 3 rows of the keyboard.

These two factors are the key in writing FAST!!!

Definitely it is a good way to start. It works like a construction plan and serves as a quick guide. You can start first by managing the H1 and H2 headers, then add the notes, and rewrite your ideas. I use this kind of style and it is by far the fastest. When you have a plan, everything works better.

I find three sources, pick and choose a few good bits of info, do an outline with them, then write the article. I can do an awesome 500 word article on just about anything I can research in 45 minutes to an hour using this method. SAVE your research links! I have a folder with several sub-folders on my bookmarks bar that has the links I used for certain topics. That way, I don't have to bother searching. I can pretty much tell from the title now which links to use, as I have used them over and over. After awhile, you can knock out an article on certain topics in 30 minutes or less, because your research time is zilch.

I find that taking a break from writing one thing, by starting to write something else - helps get more writing done.

this is what i also do. if you write on the same niche over and over, better save your links so you don't have to be researching again. also, i have this technique of downloading references and highlighting the part which i think should be included in my write up.

Just concentrate on what you write.
Just write good and unique content which is easy to read and understand not to complicate.
and the last thing just practice as practice makes a man perfect !

Practice. I've written thousands of articles, and while I was a pretty fast typist before, I'm quite a bit faster now.

Also, learn to trust auto-correct. Type through mistakes, then go back and let spell-check fix them. It is faster than backspacing every time and correcting on the spot.

Are you using a free version of Grammarly? I am still considering buying a premium membership, but I'd like an opinion from someone who's using it.

    Thats my favourite topic.
    I write over 10000 words a week.
I am able to properly write a 500 word article, format it, add images and post it in 30 minutes.
I don't think I am the fastest But I want to share my method.
    • Keep the topics handy, keep them in Evernote or something.
    • A big screen monitor is great for research work, so divide your screen between the browser and the word processor.
    • Start writing without caring about the typos etc.
    • Go through the article again, fix typos, to minor changes like Capitalise words, Rephrase, Proper headings etc.
    • Find relevant images or create them in a photo editor (I mostly do quoteses in images, instead of spending time looking for the perfect image.

    Written in 4 minutes. :)

Haha, maybe because I wasn't paid for this.

I actually did a recheck before hitting publish. Sometimes I feel I am dyslexic.

I do absolutely agree with you. The biggest problem with most of the writers is their Vocabulary. Generally all writers are good and have clear perception in their mind about what they should write but what makes a best writer differ from ordinary writer is how do they use the vocabulary in their content. With practice, practice and even more practice, the words will drain down your pen or on keyboard as reflex.

And this is the only criteria to write faster.
